The basis for Paul Thomas Anderson’s 2007 film There Will Be Blood, the saga follows the rise of an oil magnate through the eyes of his loving but increasingly pessimistic son. After writing The Jungle, a groundbreaking book that exposed harsh labor conditions, novelist Upton Sinclair was inspired by the 1920s Teapot Dome Scandal during Warren G. Harding’s presidency. Sinclair delivers a scathing, satirical critique of social injustice during the early years of the California oil boom.

This is an excellent book in its own right. It is well written and covers its subject matter very well. It is made all the better being in the lay it flat format. It can be positioned at a certain page to reference and never flips pages or tries to close. And it can be read in single page format by holding it in that manner. An excellent book made better. This is a sturdy, easy to follow instruction book that really lays flat, even when you fold the pages completely over.
