In the introduction of his Inventions and Sinfonias, J.S. Bach set out the aim of these pieces, formulating a dual the keyboard player should, on the one hand, practice contrapuntual playing in two or three onligatory voices and develop a "cantabile" style; at the same time he should also be given an introduction to the study of composition, and learn how a piece can be developed from an invented theme (Inventio) by means of imitative techniques.

These spiral bound piano books are absolutely the bomb! With these books, the challenge is all in the playing - not in keeping the book open. My only minor complaint is that the printing needs to be a little further out from the binding. There is a wide margin on the outside, but an insufficient margin on the inside. BTW, customer service has been great too!
